The Peasant Princess by Mars Hill Church

Pastor Mark Driscol did a wonderful break down of the Song of Songs and even had singles in the audience and received various questions throughout the time they studied this. I've been very educated by these studies and really would encourage older singles and marrieds to check out these messages. I would say that he's very frank and honest, but I wouldn't say there's anything crass or immature so it really is a wonderful study. And even though the Song of Solomon seems to be *just* about sex he really breaks things down to where there's alot that can apply in your everyday life.

The website is peasantprincess.com and there you'll find a preview (top right) and you'll find study information under "The Story" which should further help you with this study.

Update For Those Who Didn't Know

Chris has officially lost his job and was laid off on January 8th, the day before my birthday. Happy Birthday Charice! We know the hand of God is in this and has proven it in so many ways, mostly by the information that Chris will get a severance and it will keep us a float until he gets a permanent job with insurance. I've put in paperwork for us to get food stamps and medicaid to help us stretch what stockpile I've accumulated already, but also because it takes awhile to get all the lovely paperwork done and over with.

We have also found out that I am once again pregnant with our third baby, due approximately in August or September. Our insurance runs out at the end of the month so I have so far made a confirmation appointment with my OB/GYN (yeah that morning nausea thing isn't a give away at all), and hopefully before my insurance runs out at the end of the month I can get in one more appointment. After that it's all in God's hands and we eagerly wait for him to keep care of his flock of children.

Chris has received an offer to do some side work for a previous boss of his and there's talk of him possibly being taken on as a full time worker but this was a previous desire and the boss was unable to pay him what he was making at his previous job. God is good and this guy has been very kind to Chris over the years and we are greatful that he would respond so kindly to hiring Chris on.

Anyway, we appreciate and covet your prayers. :-)

The roles women play in society - the frank truth..

I've been wanting some time to sit down and really get into the meaty reality of the roles that women take on during the many seasons that ebb and flow in our lives. I'm sure some of the terms used here will be deemed offensive though that isn't the desire of this post. It's moreso to bring about an awareness of where many unbelieving females are in their life and also as a means of reflection on just how far our walk has been with the Lord. What the Lord has truly labeled "Redeemed".

The Lord has personally redeemed me from some of these titles and it's only by the grace of God that I can even today take in the beauty of being set aside by the Father, to be chosen as one of the few to bring glory to Him who saved me from such a heart wrenching life.

Please keep an open mind and realize that these of course are not in some biblical, numerical correct way but are simply an open and frank realization of where the women in America (and other countries, I'm sure) stand.

(1) Single
Definition: unmarried, only one in number, unmarried state, solitary, sole
Looks Like: I would say the biblical definition would be a female who does not "date" nor have sexual intercourse or rather any physically sexual connection with a man. Meaning she does not consent to have sex whether intercourse or oral, she does not allow a man to sexual approach her in any way but is chaste. Single can however mean that you have an unwavering desire to be courted which eventually will end in marriage, but there is to be sexual purity during this time.

(2) Married
Definition: joined, united in wedlock
Looks Like: A man and woman (sadly that needs specification these days) that are bound together not only by documents and a shiny band, but a desire to spend an eternity together with one another. A courting couple who seeks to "solidify" the desire to be wed and glorify God in the walk of sanctification together. To be so in love with someone that you are willing to accept that you are a sinner and that you married one, and eagerly desire to walk out a path of life with this person and God.

(3) Courted/Engaged
Definition: pledged to be married, betrothed
Looks Like: A man and women who believe that God has brought them together and that the end result will be marriage. A Godly courtship or engagement that is biblical and God edifying does not involve oral sex, heavy petting, sexual intercourse, etc. This is a chaste couple who prefer to differ from the world and desire to fight against the sin of lust and have a deep desire to wait until their wedding to be intimate.

(4) Mother
Definition: a female parent, someone that gives rise to or exercise protecting care over someone else
Looks Like: I'd love to just say read Proverbs 31 but though there are many mothers in the bible, being a mother has so many seasons and stages that there isn't enough time to cover the whole multitude. If I were to describe "mother", I would say a women who sacrificially gives of herself to her husband, children and those that God would bring about into her life. A God-fearing women that seeks to glorify the Lord in her actions of care and concern over those that the Lord has placed around her.

(5) Concubine:
Definition: a woman who cohabits with a man that she is not legally married to
Looks Like: This is the one I would say at least 90% (if not at least 80%) of women in the United States have been known as at one time or another, though not by this actual definition. This is a female who has sex with a man, cleans his house, washes his clothes, prepares meals, and generally takes care of him as if they were actually married. Many women in these types of relationships end up in sexually or physically abusive relationships due to a desire that "he may change" the more "married" they act. Chances are if a female is in this relationship, the man she cohabits with has no desire whatsoever to marry her and suffers from what some men jokingly call "The Peter Pan Syndrome". There is little chance that the couple will marry, but that if marriage is achieved somewhere down the line, it will not last very long because the relationship budded from a sex based relationship not a God based one. In this particular role, women often times bear children outside of marriage and end up a single mother, struggling to make ends met, hurting spiritually and financially with the biological father no where to be found.

(6) Whore
Definition: a female who engages in promiscuous sexual intercourse, a person considered to have compromised principles for personal gain
Looks like: A woman who has sex with a man or men while having no intent whatsoever to be married nor chaste. She is a person who has sex with single or married men, simply for the goal of achieving personal pleasure and once achieved will move onto yet another male. This individual could also be a prostitute, harlot, courtesan, strumpet and even a stripper. Anyone who would exchange sex or sexual delights in exchange for cash or other barter.

(7) Widow
Definition: a woman who has lost her husband to death but has not remarried
Looks Like: This is usually a term given to elder women who have lost their husband in some way but is not limited to those of elder age. Most elder widow's do not remarry but younger widows biblically are encouraged to wed again.

Hopefully, I've covered the vast majority of the bases but should another role come to mind I will likely add to this post or possibly elaborate even more in another post down the road.

I do hope that this brief break down reminds those of us who were shackled to sexual sin, that God almighty can redeem even the worst of sinners and make the body and soul new. And to those who are single in the struggle against sin, I encourage you to read a book by Joshua Harris titled "Sex Is Not The Problem: Lust Is", it's not just a book for men about "their" problem but about a sin problem.

Interesting follow up article in reference to today's revelation

"CSPI Urges FDA to Ban Artificial Food Dyes linked to behavior problems"

Snippet from article:
"Americans' exposure to artificial food dyes has risen sharply. According to the FDA, the amount of food dye certified for use was 12 milligrams per capita per day in 1955. In 2007, 59 mg per capita per day, or nearly five times as much, was certified for use. Dyes are used in countless foods and are sometimes used to simulate the color of fruits or vegetables. Kraft's Guacamole Dip gets its greenish color not from avocados (there are almost none) but from Yellow 5, Yellow 6, and Blue 1. The blue bits in Aunt Jemima Blueberry Waffles are blue thanks to Red 40 and Blue 2, not real blueberries.

Artificial dyes are particularly prevalent in the sugary cereals, candies, sodas, and snack foods pitched to kids. For instance, General Mills' Fruit Roll-ups and Fruit-by-the-Foot flavored snacks get their fruity colors from Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Red 40, and Blue 1. General Mills' Fruity Cheerios, Lucky Charms, and Trix also contain several of the problematic dyes, as do Kellogg's Froot Loops and Apple Jacks and Post's Fruity Pebbles.

More than a dozen American varieties of Kraft's Oscar Meyer Lunchables kids' meals contain artificial food dyes, but not so the British versions. Starburst Chews, Skittles, and M&M candies—all Mars products—contain the full spectrum of artificial colors in the U.S., but not in the U.K., where the company uses natural colorings. Even foods that aren't particularly brightly colored can contain dyes, including several varieties of macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes. Betty Crocker's Au Gratin "100% Real" Potatoes are partly not real, colored as they are with Yellow 5 and Yellow 6, both derived from coal tar. Remarkably, in Britain, the color in McDonald's strawberry sauce for sundaes actually comes from strawberries; in the U.S. it comes from Red 40.

"The science shows that kids' behavior improves when these artificial colorings are removed from their diets and worsens when they’re added to the their diets," said Dr. David Schab, a psychiatrist at Columbia University Medical Center, who conducted the 2004 meta-analysis with his colleague Dr. Nhi-Ha T. Trinh. "While not all children seem to be sensitive to these chemicals, it's hard to justify their continued use in foods—especially those foods heavily marketed to young children."

Today's Revelation

"So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate." Genesis 3:6

I had this interesting revelation today that I know some would assume as some sort of incorrect interpretation but it just came to me and hopefully people who read the blog can understand where the imagery came in at.

Just because food looks good on the outside does not mean that it's healthy nor that the wrapper/package/skin will indicate it's health or ripeness. I've had a few friends of mine who were part of a produce group say that they found some fruit that was beautiful on the outside yet was rotten inside. Take for example the revelation by marketing that food packaged in green would appeal to consumers as being good and healthy.

Here check out the label of a box of Froot Loops cereal:
SUGAR; CORN FLOUR; WHEAT FLOUR; OAT FLOUR; PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED VEGETABLE OIL (ONE OR MORE OF: COCONUT, COTTONSEED, AND SOYBEAN) †; SALT; SODIUM ASCORBATE AND ASCORBIC ACID (VITAMIN C); REDUCED IRON; NATURAL ORANGE, LEMON, CHERRY, RASPBERRY, BLUEBERRY, LIME, AND OTHER NATURAL FLAVORS; RED #40; BLUE #2; YELLOW #6; ZINC OXIDE; NIACINAMIDE; TURMERIC COLOR; BLUE #1; PYRIDOXINE HYDROCHLORIDE (VITAMIN B6); RIBOFLAVIN (VITAMIN B2); THIAMIN HYDROCHLORIDE (VITAMIN B1); VITAMIN A PALMITATE; ANNATTO COLOR; BHT (PRESERVATIVE); FOLIC ACID; VITAMIN D; VITAMIN B12.

Anytime you see a color followed by a number your basically eating something that a scientist cooked up in some lab. If you do enough research you will find out that originally dye is derived from coal tar oil and actually contains an amount of arsenic and lead. Of course, it's a level that the FDA considers safe but come on now, exactly how much arsenic in our meals is acceptable in the first place? Oh, and not only is BHT another petroleum derivative it's an ingredient in embalming fluid.

Many consider me a health nut, but I'm actually just trying to keep my "temple" healthy so that I can spend more time serving the Lord and live out my days for as long as possible. Though our days are numbered by God we have an obligation to carefully choose what goes in our mouth, whether it gives us energy or zaps it.
